The songs on this album were largely written when I was at university in my room in Hall of Residence,
room number G36.

Some (marked P) were recorded on my faithful Philips reel to reel tape recorder using a single (plastic)
microphone. Nothing was multi tracked or over dubbed; everything was recorded as is. They are
unsophisticated but I wanted to leave them that way as they have period charm and authenticity!
The tracks had lots of hiss and rumble, and it is a tribute to Graeme Taylor that he has re-mastered
them so well. You should have heard them before he worked his magic!

Then I had the opportunity to record in the University Drama studio (which was an old church) using
decent microphones and four track TEAC tape recorder. (Those tracks are marked **). They were
originally produced in 1977 – 78 and were recorded overnight. We started at 10pm and finished in the
early hours! Neil Kelly played bass and electric guitar, and I played acoustic (my Yamaha) and did the vocals
- obviously!

The natural ambience of the church helped. Neil and I set up the mics and amps on stage and just
played. We did over-dub some of his guitar and bass parts, but I just played and sang – none of this
multi track nonsense! Roger engineered the recording. Again, it has needed Graeme’s expertise to try
and improve the sound quality as best he could.
