6. St Marys Laughter (3:20)

I heard a legend about Lower Slaughter in the Cotswolds deriving its name from
St Marys Laughter. I don’t know if the story was true, but it inspired me to think about someone moving
from the city to the country and meeting the love of his life.

6. St Marys Laughter

St Marys Laughter

Whisper silently in stations now that you are leaving me

Far into the countryside away from city lights
Go and seek a peace deserving, living by the flowing water
As in ending so beginning look into my lonely nights

I see - in the warming bright and gentleness of summer
I see - all the winds surround an age that I had lived
I see - in the beauty of the girl I know who loves me
I see - all the future of the one that time has left

And I can see St Mary’s laughter in the shadow of your eyes
And I can hear St Mary’s laughter in the colour of the night
And I am with St Mary’s laughter now that I’m in love with you
And when the sun from ever after shines clear in front of you

I can see St Mary’s laughter in the colour of your eyes
And I can hear St Mary’s laughter in the shadow of the night
And I am with St Mary’s laughter now that I’m in love with you
And when the sun from ever after shines clear in front of you

I see, I see

I see – in the message of the passenger of glory
I see – a spectre rising of a never dying past
I see – in the sparkle of the water flowing by me
I see – a new beginning recreated from the last

And I can see St Mary’s laughter in the colour of your eyes
And I can hear St Mary’s laughter in the shadow of the night
And I am with St Mary’s laughter now that I’m in love with you
And when the sun from ever after shines clear in front of you

I can hear St Mary’s laughter in the colour of your eyes
And I can see St Mary’s laughter in the shadow of the night
And I am with St Mary’s laughter now that I’m in love with you
And when the sun from ever after shines clear in front of you

I see, I see, I see.
