Album One

9.  The Birthday Smile (3:42)**

I read an article about a grandmother of 100 years old meeting her newborn great grandchild. The article pointed out that the woman’s life had spanned a period from the Battle of the Little Big Horn to man landing on the moon. So, what changes would the baby see in their lifetime?

9. The Birthday Smile

THE BIRTHDAY SMILE

The birthday smile than spans a hundred of years

The woman now she smiles that she’s living here

From the Battle of the Big Horn to the Man on the Moon

So she knows just what it’s like to be loving you

So how can you tell her that she’s dying?

How can you tell her that she’s dying?

How can we tell her that she’s dying?

The baby smiles, he smiles ‘cause he is in this world

And when he cries, he cries for all the world

And the woman, she can tell you what it’s like

Please comfort the child, it may not be what he likes.

So how can you tell him that he’s dying?

How can you tell him that he’s dying?

How can we tell him that he’s dying?

Behind the wrinkled eyes, there lives a face that spans an age

And she looks down at the smile

Of the baby lying in her arms

And the other’s bright and new, seeing others he once knew

And he finds it in the life of a child, of a child

From the Battle of the Big Horn, to the Man on the Moon

I’ve lived a hundred lives but I’ve never seen one like you

I’ll know you when I see you – the baby in my arms

An experience so natural, an experience so calm…

So how can we tell them that they’re dying?

How can we tell them that they’re dying?

And how can I tell you that you’re dying?
