11. The Jihadist's Lament

The Jihadist`s Lament

It’s hot and it’s dusty, but nobody cares
As we’re firing our rockets at the people out there
“Convert unbelievers” that’s what it said
Inside the book that I’ve barely read

What am I doing? What’s going on?
Why am I out here, so far from England?
It seemed so exciting; they said it was fun
But now I am terrified, terrified at what I have done

It’s nothing like England, though they pay me a wage
It’s a lot to go through at such a young age
I tie up my headscarf as it makes me look cool
But the guys all around me can be incredibly cruel

What am I doing? What’s going on?
Why am I out here, so far from England?
It seemed so exciting; they said it was fun
But now I am terrified, terrified at what I have done

I can’t go back to England; I gave up my job
I thought I’d be welcomed when I joined to this mob
They just use me for my accent in the videos we post
To say what we mean when, when we make our boasts

What am I doing? What’s going on?
Why am I out here, so far from England?
It seemed so exciting; they said it was fun
But now I am terrified, terrified at what I have done

So now I am stuck here, my passport removed
I seem to be state-less; I’ve been such a fool
There’s nowhere to go now, there’s nothing to do
But to fight all the kafirs, before they get you

What am I doing? What’s going on?
Why am I out here, so far from England?
It seemed so exciting; they said it was fun
But now I am terrified, terrified at what I have done
