I went to Glastonbury for the first time in 2008 and rather enjoyed it! Despite the ambiguities and
hypocrisies, it is still a great experience – if you like that sort of thing!

I’m trying to describe the Glastonbury vibe
Arriving in the sunshine but as I’m getting camped
The rain falls down around me and I’m feeling rather damp
So on with wellies, poncho and a brolly for my head
And I’m now ready to take on whatever’s coming next
Past the tepee field and on to Avalon
Up to where the giant flags look down on everyone
I stand awhile and gaze upon the city down below
And marvel at the scale of this amazing show

People doing silly things, some are dressed as cows
A band in pink is playing it seems natural somehow
Drinking cider made from pears and burgers topped with cheese
Being an aging hippy is such a little breeze.
I go to see our Cecily play a little show
Then wandered round the healing fields, going with the flow
I stop and rest awhile on a sofa in a tent
And wish that everyone I know could be at this event

Everywhere there’s music and everywhere there’s fun
I head off for the pyramid, the stage that’s number one
Now the sun is shining, and the mud has all dried out
I burrow through the crowds, so I am standing at the front
The people press around me, but the atmosphere is great
They wave their flags and drink their beer while they have to wait
We see an old songwriter whom I’ve idolised for years
Here is Leonard Cohen who will bring us all to tears

And so, the show is over, and the fireworks are spent
I saw great performances of all ages and all tastes
We walk out through the fences into the normal world
You can bet that I will be returning here next year
