Album Six

9.Newsprint (2:59)

We used to have paper newspapers and walked to the newsagents to buy one. I wrote this song a
very long time ago about the ephemeral power they had.

9. Newsprint

Newsprint

All the voices round us, crying for attention
I give them my ears
For a long time, for a long time
For a long time - you will still me with me and
I can see the pictures of a problem
Screwing up my days
Although I need you, I will read you
I will let you while away my journey now

Every morning needing an injection
Of what you all did yesterday
Glowing phrases, picture pages
Screaming headlines - gleaming all around me and
So, I throw you down into the wastebin
Wrapping up my meals
Half uneaten, never beaten
Waiting for me to go and get another one now

Following the lines upon the paper, I believe all you say
Although you are no better than the other one

For you I will pay
I watch the film in the vision corner without your style
The way you’re given to your notions
Makes me want to go and try another one, now
Go and try another one now

Read the stories written, see the people glisten
Following their words
In the paper, in the journal
But by the television screen – we’ll learn them

All the voices round us, crying for attention
I give them my ears
For a long time, for a long time
For a long time - you will still me with me now
All the voices crying for attention
I give them my ears
For a long time, for a long time
For a long time - you will still me with me now
